Luke Newman and Steve Purcell ran a barbershop in Australia for many years, long before it became popular and modern again. Often, they were met with misunderstanding and was called hairdressers instead of barbers.
Uppercut Deluxe as a brand came into being as part of that they were dissatisfied with the products they used in the shop. They rolled up their sleeves and began producing their own grooming products. After a year of development, they came out with the first product, "Deluxe Pomade".
Luke's grandfather was an old boxer who lived under the motto that a tough start will make for a good end. He went by the nickname "Uppercut" and was honored with the brand named after him. Today the product range consists of several different styling products, skin care and shaving products.
