How to use a flattening stone

A flattening stone is used to level sharpening stones that have become uneven through use. When the whetstone is no longer perfectly flat, sharpening results decline and it becomes harder to maintain the correct angle against the edge. With a flattening stone, you quickly restore the stone’s flat surface.

Soak both the whetstone and the flattening stone with water.
Place the flattening stone against the whetstone and work with even pressure in circular motions or in a grid pattern.
Continue until the entire surface of the whetstone is even and flat.
Rinse both stones and allow them to dry after use.
