Father’s Day gift

Father’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in November

Father’s Day was established in the United States in the early 1900s as a complement to Mother’s Day. It was celebrated in various states before gradually becoming a tradition that spread across the world. Today, fathers are honored in most countries around the globe.

Father’s Day was introduced in Sweden in 1931. Most countries originally celebrated it on the third Sunday in June, which was also the case in Sweden at first. However, it was later moved to the second Sunday in November. This is also the date observed in neighboring countries such as Norway and Finland.

Common Father’s Day gifts

The most common Father’s Day gift is a tie. Roughly half of all dads receive a blue, red, or striped tie on this day. Shirts, socks, and books are also among the most popular gifts. Adult children often choose to give their fathers a bottle of whisky, a men’s fragrance, or perhaps a deodorant.

Since Father’s Day takes place in November, when autumn has fully arrived, it’s also common to see hats, slippers, or thermal underwear included among the gifts.
