Different sizes and types of round brushes

The very largest round brushes can have a diameter of up to 70 mm, but large brushes typically range between 50–60 mm. A small round brush usually has a diameter of approximately 20–45 mm. The shorter the bristles on a round brush, the stiffer it will feel compared to a brush of the same diameter with longer bristles. To maintain both bounce and flexibility in the strands as the diameter increases, the inner round core of the brush also increases in size. 

The longer your hair, the larger the diameter you will want. The diameter also matters depending on whether you want to curl or style your hair in a particular way. That’s why it’s common to have both a large-diameter round brush and a smaller one. 

Round brush with boar bristles

These round brushes feature natural hair in the form of boar bristles. They are often set in wooden handles with a center pin. Some brushes are denser, while others have more spaced-out bristles. A round brush with boar bristles is gentle on the hair and excellent for building volume and enhancing natural shine. It provides a great grip on the hair, allowing you to shape, blow-dry, and style effectively. 

Round brushes with natural bristles are particularly popular for styling and shaping beards, as they both detangle curly facial hair and provide a firm grip on the beard hairs. 

Ceramic round brushes that reflect heat

Round brushes with a ceramic coating tolerate heat better and have usually replaced boar bristles with heat-resistant pins or bristles. The ceramic barrel reflects heat, and the pins withstand high temperatures much better than boar bristles. The heat-reflective ceramic surface speeds up the drying process and distributes heat more evenly from your hair dryer.
