Ardennes Coticule started in 1998 to produce Belgian whetstones. But history shows that since the 1600s has been production of whetstones from the Belgian quarry in the Ardennes. In the 1800s, the Burton family where one of the first to quarry whetstones in large scale from the quarry. After 1865 they Belgian Coticule whetstones where known outside Belgium borders. There are only a few places in the Ardennes where it is possible to quarry whetstones and that make the Belgian Coticule Water Stones both unique and sought after.
