Andis has its roots in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. Matthew Andis worked there in the early last century by manufacturing tools. John Oster and Henry Meltzer visited him and asked if he wanted to become a partner in their new business.

In 1920 Andis O M Manufacturing was started and their first product was a tool used to produce cutting blades for manually operated hair clippers. Already after a year, they went their separate ways and Andis developed an electric hair clipper and formed his own business around it.
